这是春秋末期晋国著名刺客豫让说的，强调感恩报恩。因为对自己有知遇之恩者智伯被赵襄子所杀，豫让认为“士为知己者死，女为悦己者容”，决心刺杀赵襄子为智伯报仇。第一次攻击失败以后，他用漆疮烂身体，吞炭弄哑声音，残身苦形，使妻子不识，然后寻找接近赵襄子的时机。第二次行刺仍以失败告终，但是被捕的豫让说：“明主不掩人之美，忠臣有死名之义。”他请求赵襄子借衣服让他砍一刀。赵襄子脱下了贵族的华服，豫让拔剑三跃而击之，然后伏剑自杀。
在感恩的历史长河中，流淌着多少古今中外名人感恩的故事。古有黄香在寒冷的冬天，先用自己的体温暖了席子，才让父亲睡到温暖的床上;今有伟人毛主席，邀请他的老师参加开国大典;朱总司令蹲下身，亲自为妈妈洗脚。还有居里夫人，寄去机票，让她的学老师欧班老师来参加镭研究所的落成典礼，居里夫人还亲自把老师送上主席台。伟人之所以伟大，名人之所以成为名人，是因为他们都拥有美好的心理品质——感恩。
