前面提到四种学习方式：合作学习/共同学习、自主学习、任务型学习、探究学习。下面就对它们做一个简明扼要的介绍。这个介绍是提纲挈领的介绍，涉及不到十分具体的技巧。关于技巧方面可以在培训班另安排时间深入探讨。过去(甚至目前)学生课堂学习的方式比较单一、枯燥乏味、效果不佳。这种学习方式就是大家所熟悉的学生听教师讲为主的方式。《英语课程标准》建议教师帮助学生掌握多种学习方式。这里介绍的四种学习方式，不是全部的学习方式，比如，有条件的地方，可以利用多媒体手段、利用互联网络进行学习。这里介绍四种学习方式，不意味着其他学习方式不好，或者无效，而是要根据教学实际情况选择使用、交替使用、综合使用。而且，教师讲解也不是在教学中没有任何地位，必要的时候，仍然可以使用。只不过不要把它作为唯一的方式或者主要的学习方式。各种学习方式之间不是截然分开的，它们可以相互结合，相互影响。

合作学习或者称为共同学习，用于外语教学，基于以下几个理念。

一、课堂外面的社会，人与人之间需要进行合作，课堂教学就要培养合作意识，训练合作技能。

二、语言的本质是社会性的，是人与人之间沟通的工具，与人交际和沟通的过程就是合作行为。语言哲学里提到的会话含义的基础就是会话者要遵循会话准则。

三、语言习得研究证明，掌握交际工具在互动中掌握比较有效。互动就是合作行为。

学生在一块儿学习不一定就是合作学习，比如，在双人组、四人组的形式下，也许不能称得上是合作学习。合作学习要遵循一定的原则。共同学习的一个原理是，学习者要在学习中相互依赖，这样才够得上合作学习。但是，这种依赖不是自己不出力，仅依*其他组员替自己学习。这不是合作学习的目标，也不是合作学习的基本原则。而这种依赖是一种积极的依赖，依赖协作完成共同的学习任务。因此，我们称这种依赖为相互依赖。学习者在哪些方面相互依赖呢?有以下几个方面：

目标的相互依赖，即组员有一个共同的学习目标，完成共同的任务，而不是每个组员都有一个不同的目标。这样一来，共同的目标为学生提供了共同学习的基础。

角色的相互依赖，即组员在完成任务中扮演不同的角色，每个角色对于完成任务都重要，是互补关系，相互依存的关系，对于完成任务缺一不可。

资源的相互依赖，即组员在完成任务时共享学习资源。

身份的相互依赖，即组员同属一个组，相同的身份把他们联系到一起，合作的活动帮助他们建立集体的荣誉感。

合作学习的要素有哪些呢?相互依赖、个人责任感、合作技能、混合编组、教师角色。这些在这里不展开谈了。

合作学习扩展到课外，可以构成合作式的项目学习(project-based cooperative learning)，即学生合作完成某一个项目。如果用互联网络来合作完成某个项目，就可以构成合作式的网络学习(web-based cooperative learning)，等等。

根据合作学习的原则和要素，它和其他学习方式、学习手段组合，可以创造出多种多样、丰富多彩的合作学习形式。

仁爱版《英语》教材中，有大量的双人活动(Pair work)，也有一些多人组的活动(Group work)，这些可以利用、改编、使它们成为名副其实的合作学习的资源。教师们可以将这些学习的资源对照前面所说的合作学习的原则，判断它们当中，哪些是合作性的活动，哪些不符合合作学习的原理，然后合理地利用这些材料。有些教材的设计采用了项目学习的理念，教师(或者学生)确定一些学习的项目，学生完成学习项目，在完成学习项目的过程中，学习者运用并学习了语言。下面我们从仁爱版《英语》教材中举一个例子加以说明。在学习特殊疑问句的单元里，有一项调查活动。每个学生要去找自己的同学，用英语问他们的父亲是做什么的，母亲是做什么的。然后，把调查的结果记录下来。这就是一个小型的调查项目，在课堂上就可以完成。这个活动把语言运用和真实的生活情景结合起来，跟同学进行语言互动。

自主学习的基本理念在于：一、学生有不同的需求、不同的潜能、不同的学习风格，自主学习有利于形成个性化的学习方法，有利于开发学生的学习潜能。二、自主学习可以帮助形成良好的学习习惯，奠定“可持续学习的能力”，即离开学校后，不依赖教师，仍然能够继续学习的能力。三、自主学习可以培养学习的主动性。但是，自主学习不意味着教师撒手不管，放任自流。教师的指导作用必不可少。教师要给学生创造有利的学习条件，提供学习资源，以及各种形式的帮助。

教师可以在以下方面开展工作。

一、学习策略的培训二、学习资源的开发三、学习环境的创设

仁爱版《英语》教材中有相当多的练习，冠以独立学习的名字(Work alone)，还有相当可观的练习，虽没有冠以独立学习的名字，但是也都要求学生自己独立完成的。比如：Listen and Follow; Listen, Read and Say; Listen, Read and Understand,等等。那么，教师如何利用这些练习材料，帮助学生发展自主学习的能力，学会学习英语、掌握一定数量的英语学习策略，是教师们应该研究的问题，并且开发利用这些练习素材。

任务型学习的基本理念和方法已经有许多的研究与讨论。它是外语教学中交际语言教学的发展与延伸。它认为：一、语言学习的过程要有实践、要亲身体验;二、语言学习要在用中学，陈述性知识不能代替过程性知识;三、语言学习要通过学习者之间的互动，许多任务是互动型的，或者是合作型的;四、语言学习的形式要能够引起学习者的兴趣，任务型学习的活动往往具有真实性、挑战性，可以引起学习者的兴趣;五、语言学习要有意义，任务型学习不是枯燥的结构操练，而是有具体目标的学习任务。

当然，关于任务型学习还可以说很多，比如，它的形式、它的分类、它的设计、它的使用的条件，它的局限，等等。由于时间所限，这里不能展开讨论。老师们可以参考国内外出版的关于任务型学习的书籍，加上自己的亲身实践，可以为自己的学生提供一种新型的学习方式。

下面我们举一个例子加以说明。有一个任务，模拟交际。任务的要求是进行自我介绍，情景设计为中外学生联谊会。学生分别扮演中国学生和外国学生。任务要求学生必须谈论自己的姓名、年龄、家庭、学校、喜欢的课程、业余爱好等。任务的设计还为学生提供完成该任务的语言支持，如，了解他人各方面情况的英语提问的方法;完成该任务所需要的词汇、短语。任务完成的方式为小组活动。任务完成后的成果形式可以多种多样，如：口头交际了解他人的信息、书面报告、网上交友。

探究学习作为一种学习方式，它的基本理念是：一、不一定所有的知识都要教师讲授给学生;二、学生自己发现的东西记忆更牢*;三、探究学习是主动学习;四、探究学习体验、实践;五、探究学习是独立学习;六、探究学习是带着问题去学习。最后，探究学习也是发现学习、归纳学习，这对于语言学习会起到关键性作用。

探究学习的方式方法可以很多很多，教师可以去尝试、去使用、去开发、去创造。外语教学中，对于探究学习的实践还刚刚开始，我们要考虑的问题还很多，比如，探究学习在语言学习中的作用;哪些东西学生可以发现，哪些必须教师讲授;探究学习的形式与方法有哪些，等等。

仁爱版《英语》教材中包括大量的类似完形填空的练习，即填词完成对话、完成短文等。它们可以被作为探究学习的素材。教师可以启发学生在完成练习的过程中进行思考上下文的情景、人物之间的关系、事件发生的时间前后关系，等等。

总结上述的学习方式，我们可以看出，学习方式可以是多种多样，所谈到的四种学习方式也不是全部的学习方式，教师们仍然可以根据自己的教学资源和教学条件开发利用其他的学习方式。我们还可以从中感到，多种多样的学习方式，可以带来学习动机、学习兴趣的变化，丰富学习的内容和形式。更重要的是，通过学习方式的变革，我们可以培养学生独立学习的能力与人合作的能力以及使用语言的能力。
