注重语篇分析水平、合理判断能力及根据语义进行逻辑推理能力的考查;

读速要求大大提高,阅读词汇量逐年增加。NMET1993为1143个,而NMET已增到2025个。

广泛性:

类型多样,内容全面。网上资源包罗万象,从内容上来看有文化、体育、保健、娱乐、历史、地理、生物、科技、环保等多方面知识,在形式上则有新闻报道、报刊杂志、原版读物、图片图表、分析推理等等。可以肯定它运用语言涵盖了高中教材所涉及或是学生所关心的话题,且可以从多种角度激发学生的阅读兴趣。

共享性:

检索快捷,方便整合。大中型网站一般都有搜索引擎,如search.sina.com.cn、search.nytimes.com等等。还有的网站,如google(www.google.com)等,则专业地提供中英文材料的主题或关键词搜索。速度快捷的搜索引擎大大方便了教师选材。教师只要确立主题或是材料类别便可迅速找到所需资料,且经过整合后的这些资料可构建材料组,实现区域性的资源共享。

即时性:

材料鲜活,更新方便。 由于客观条件的限制,教材中阅读材料往往陈旧、过时,而网络上不断更新的动态数据可以为学生提供最新的相关资料。如学习到The Olympic Games (Unit 10, SEFC 1A) 时,可以在www.olympic.org上找到奥运会的新闻及背景知识,还可以在www.beijing-.org的English版选摘北京申奥的具体进程;再如New York (Unit 13, SEFC 3B)中有大量的篇幅谈论双子塔,教师可从美国相关网站上找出“9・11”事件的报道作为补充阅读材料。这可以使学生真正领会到通过阅读了解热点问题的乐趣。

三、网络泛读资源库的构建

网络化的泛读教学并不是听任学生无目的地在网上浏览。先期构建适合高中学生需要的网络阅读资源库是进行泛读教学的前提。网络阅读资源库所需的物质准备是有能连上Internet的教师用机(服务站)及与校园网相连的一定量的学生机(工作站),这属于普通中学微机教室的基本配置。教师通过搜索选择、下载网页、制作链接后可在短时间内做出一个简易的双层网站。一般说来,构建过程可分三步:

确定主题

笔者以为,泛读教学的选材应当尽量扣住使用的教材。人教版高中教材的主题分布基本照顾了学生的知识结构,如文化体育、风俗传统、人物传记、历史资料、科学发现、名胜古迹、环境保护、文学原著等等。它们所缺乏的不可能是多角度多层次多时机地提供素材。教师可以根据进度结合所学的内容来确立泛读的主题。如学习SEFC 1B的The Aswan Dam一课时,可考虑选择the River Nile(尼罗河)的介绍材料,使学生从另一个角度了解这条常常洪水泛滥却又十分重要的河流。我们也可考虑选用China Daily中对我国著名的三峡大坝水利工程的报道供学生阅读。

较窄的主题(如Angkor Wat、Sherlock Holmes)可以采用大型搜索引擎,但一个相对宽泛主题(如Gymnastics、Food)则应选择分类的网站进行查询,这可以避免在数千个甚至数万个结果中进行二次选择的艰辛。常用的课文背景知识网站有(括号内为IP地址):

材料整组

网络材料的内容并不一定都很健康有益,难度更是未必适合高中生阅读。网上的素材下载后,教师应进行初步的筛选,本着科学性、多样性、趣味性的原则选出数张网页或文章,然后根据设计意图进行再加工(如注解或替换部分生词、设计阅读任务等)。接下来,我们要根据所选材料的个体特征确定其篇幅、位置与链接次序。重新整组后的同一个相关主题的数张网页可以构成一个材料组,相当于一个子网站。常用的材料排序是按照pre-reading (背景资料)、while-reading(辅助性阅读)与post-reading(拓展性阅读)进行的。科学组合后的材料可以在加深学生对教材的理解、补充文化知识的同时,通过激发阅读的自主性逐步提高他们的阅读水平。

四、网络环境下泛读教学的基本策略

泛读教学的基本策略是突出语言的工具性,培养学生通过阅读获取信息的能力。网络环境下的泛读教学应当提倡任务驱动下的多层次、多维度的教学策略,突出思维参与,培养学生主动寻找信息、综合分析材料的能力。

实施任务驱动

传统的泛读教学方法是“串讲式”,它的优点是容量大、主题集中,缺点是学习者十分被动,思维参与量小。根据TBL(任务型学习)理论,语言的习得应当是有目的的交际活动,教师可以通过设计任务(task)来交代每次阅读的目标,然后给时间让学生阅读、思考乃至讨论合作,作出解决任务的构想(planning),最后由学生给出汇报(report)。同一语篇应用的任务应当是多时机、多层次的,应当由易到难、由浅表性理解到综合性领会,可以形成一个或数个微型任务构成的阶梯式的任务链。任务驱动策略充分体现了以学生为中心的教育理念。由于泛读材料往往难度高于教材,学生通过思考、合作、竞争,在完成任务中体验成功的愉悦,这可以最大限度地调动学生的积极性,发挥他们的学习潜能。

训练阅读技巧

阅读是一个积极主动的理解与接受信息的过程,也是一种复杂的智力活动。作者把自己的思想用文字表述出来,这是一个由词到句、由句到篇的“编码(encoding)”过程,而读者阅读材料实际是从辨认文字开始对文学、语义、修辞进行“解码(decoding)”的过程。“解码”过程的时值与阅读效率成反比。我们可从下列几方面着手训练阅读技巧:

学会搜寻信息:

给学生一些关于细节性的问题,如:How many telephone calls did Mr. Smith receive in the morning?鼓励学生通过略读(skim)或是跳读(skip)迅速搜寻答案;

学会猜测词义:

泛读材料中的生词是影响读速的重要因素,我们在重组材料时应有意设计生词障碍。它们既可以是根据上下文或是构词法可知意思的词,也可是仅能猜到词义的类别,但不影响全文理解的词(如花卉、动物的专业名等)。

学会识读图表:

图表是一种承载信息量较大的常用语言形式,全部读完是没有意义的。我们可以设计分类统计或是数据分析的任务,要求学生迅速定位查询,说出结果。

培养分析能力

阅读当然不仅仅是个“解码”过程,它还是一个运用经验的“图式(schema)”来完成语义领悟的过程,因而语篇分析能力的培养是阅读教学最重要的目标之一。它要求学生从整体上把握材料并根据自身的体验来探索作者的体验,做出某方面的评价与判断。教师通常可从四个方面设计阅读任务、引发讨论,从而培养学生的阅读分析能力:

给出(或选出)材料的主题(subject)或标题(title);

说出作者的写作意图(intention)与情感倾向(tendency)或态度(attitude);

根据材料中的相关事实的结果做出符合逻辑的推断(logical conclusion);

结合个人的生活体验对材料中涉及的事实进行适当的评价(evaluate)。

应当注意的是,学生思考的用时、讨论的范围及教师的即时反应均影响阅读分析的效果。

五、网络环境教学对教师的要求

网络环境下进行泛读教学的组织者是英语教师,教学效果的良莠一定程度上取决于教师的策划能力。尽管业务能力、理论水平、人格魅力、情感态度等这些传统意义上评价教师的标准仍然重要,但网络环境下的泛读教学对英语教师有着更高的要求:

具有开拓创新的工作热情

网络时代给基础教育手段带来了革命性变化。在各学科寻求与信息技术整合从而优化教学过程的今天,仅仅满足于教科书作为知识的载体显然是不行的。但网络环境教学仍然是一个全新的课题,没有什么现成的模式可供借鉴,它需要付出比传统教学多得多的精力与耐心。实验者可能因网络的负面效应而遭遇讥讽、嘲笑,也有可能在探索中一次次失败。技术的掌握、理论的钻研更需要大量辛勤的工作。没有努力开拓创新的工作热情是不可能尝到成功的滋味的。

拥有网络教学的理论基础

在网络环境中,教师不应再是知识的传授者,也不应是教学活动的主宰。教师是网络资源的设计者,是学习目标的引导者,也是学习群体的协作者。师生之间是平等民主的合作伙伴关系,学生是学习活动的主体。教师应当在“任务型”学习理论的指导下,创建丰富的阅读情境,设计合理的激励性的阅读任务,给出积极的学习评价。只有这样,才能充分发挥学生的主动性与创造性,提高学生获取信息、分析问题和评判思想的能力。

掌握一定的网络开发水平

网络开发水平无疑是创建与利用网络资源的基础。这体现在以下几方面:

掌握计算机基本操作系统的使用(如Windows NT, Office 文档处理,Internet的设置使用、收发邮件等);

掌握网页下载、设计与制作的基本技术(如使用Frontpage 制作带链接、图片、表单的网页等);

具备网络系统安装、运行与维护的基本能力;掌握ASP/CGI动态网页后台发布系统的操作技术。

All his families felt so sad and his father kept searching him for more than three months, finally he was found.
