引导结论的引导词有:therefore,thus,so,hence,concluding,consequently,as a result,It follows that,it can be inferred that,in conlusin,which proves

that, which means that, which suggerts that, 引导前提的引导词:because, for, since,as,in as much as(由于,因为),in so far

as (就。。而言),in view of BàA 模式:有一个survey,record,data,study,experiment或者phemonena等得出一个结论,是他做出的一个解释。 常见的引导词有: demonstrate,show,result,due to,attribute to,reason,hypothesize,the

explanation to,be responsible for.

1. 用最高级、唯一性、比较级来排除;

2. 用同性元素来排除;

和中国考生自己写作文不一样的是,美国人的阅读文章中从来都不出现“I think that, in my opinion, as far as I am considered”此类语言做主题句。

1. 判断句(含情态动词,系动词,正负褒贬词的句子);

Your minds changed my attitude.

Your minds successfully changed my attitude即是判断句了。

People are living longer now. People are living longer now since the improvement of food condition and the development of medical technoly.

Mycorrhizal fungi infect more plants than do any other fungi and are necessary for many plants to thrive, but they have escaped widespread investigation until recently for two reasons. First, the symbiotic association is so well-balanced that the roots of host plants show no damage even when densely infected. Second, the fungi cannot as yet be cultivated in the absence of a living root.

________,which / who / n. / prep. / -ing / -ed……,________.

________,such as / especially……,________.

如将文章中的“many wind-pollinated species fail to release pollen when wind speeds are low or when humid conditions prevail.”换成选项中的“Pollen is sometimes not released by plants when there is little wind”。

文章:“...unlike large businesses, they often need to make substantial investments in new plants, staff, equipment, and the like in order to perform work subcontracted to them. If, thereafter, their subcontracts are for some reason reduced, such firms can face potentially crippling fixed expenses”

题目:The passage suggests that the failure of a large business to have its bids for subcontracts result quickly in orders might cause it to

(A) experience frustration but not serious financial harm

(C) have to record its efforts on forms filed with the government

(D) increase its spending with minority subcontractors

(E) revise its procedure for making bids for federal contracts and subcontracts

Paule Marshall’s Brown Girl, Brownstones (1959) was a landmark in the depiction of female characters in Black American literature. Marshall avoided the oppressed and tragic heroine in conflict with White society that had been typical of the protest novels of the early twentieth century. Like her immediate predecessors, Zora Neale Hurston and Gwendolyn Brooks, she focused her novel on an ordinary Black woman’s search for identity within the context of a Black community. But Marshall extended the analysis of Black female characters begun by Hurston and Brooks by depicting her heroine’s development in terms of the relationship between her Barbadian American parents, and by exploring how male and female roles were defined by their immigrant culture, which in turn was influenced by the materialism of White America. By placing characters within a wider cultural context, Marshall attacked racial and sexual stereotypes and paved the way for explorations of race, class, and gender in the novels of the 1970’s.

题目:The passage is primarily concerned with

(A) comparing the works of three Black American authors

(B) describing common themes in Black American literature

(C) discussing an important work in Black American literature

(D) providing insights about Black American literature in the early twentieth century

(E) providing historical information about the writing of Black American novels in the second half the twentieth century

文章:“....Paule Marshall’s Brown Girl, Brownstones (1959) was a landmark in the depiction of female characters in Black American literature. Marshall avoided the oppressed and tragic heroine in conflict with White society that had been typical of the protest novels of the early twentieth century. Like her immediate predecessors, Zora Neale Hurston and Gwendolyn Brooks, she focused her novel on an ordinary Black woman’s search for identity within the context of a black community......”

题目:

According to the passage, Hurston, Brooks, and Marshall are alike in that they

(A) did not examine the effects of White culture on their characters’ lives

(B) were heavily influenced by the protest novels of the early twentieth century

(C) used Black communities as the settings for their novels

(D) wrote primarily about the difficulties their characters encountered in White culture

(E) wrote exclusively about female characters and the experiences of women

It can be inferred that the author of the passage would describe Brown Girl, Brownstones as being

(A) completely different from novels written before 1959

(B) highly influenced by novels written in the early twentieth century

(C) similar to the protest novels that preceded it

(D) important in the late 1950’s but dated today

(E) an important influence on novels written in the 1970’s

1)最高级词汇:best , the most important, the least useful, uttermost, foremost, uppermost, always ,never, often, usually, primarily, primary, exact(ly),complete(ly) . entire(ly) absolute(ly) extremely, unmitigated . unrestrained . unchecked. first等

2)唯一性词汇:only, alone, exclusively, sole(ly), unique(ly)

3)比较级词汇:more useful than, less beneficial than, better , worse than ,as ..as, the same with, similar to 等等。

“No very satisfactory account of the mechanism that caused the formation of the ocean basins has yet been given. The traditional view supposes that the upper mantle of the earth behaves as a liquid when it is subjected to small forces for long periods and that differences in temperature under oceans and continents are sufficient to produce convection in the mantle of the earth with rising convection currents under the(E) mid-ocean ridges and sinking currents under the continents. Theoretically, this convection would carry the continental plates along as though they were on a conveyor belt and would provide the forces needed to produce the split that occurs along the ridge. This view may be correct: it has the advantage that the currents are driven by(B) temperature differences that themselves depend on the position of the continents. Such a (D)back-coupling, in which the position of the moving plate has an impact on the forces that move it, could produce complicated and varying motions.

On the other hand, the theory is implausible because convection does not normally occur along lines, and it certainly does not occur along lines broken by frequent offs or changes in direction, as the ridge is. Also it is difficult to see how the theory applies to the plate between the (C)Mid-Atlantic Ridge and the ridge in the Indian Ocean. ”

【题】The author refers to a “conveyor belt” in order to

(A)illustrate the effects of convection in the mantle

(B)show how temperature differences depend on the positions of the continents

(C)demonstrate the linear nature of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge

(D)describe the complicated motions made possible by back coupling

(E)account for the rising currents under certain mid-ocean ridges

“The media (books, film, music, television, for example) tend to create rather than reflect the values of a society.”

For our grandparents it occurred through films and books. For the baby boomers it was a result of television and revolutionary music. No matter how the impact took place, it is clear that since its very advent, the media have played a crucial role in not simply being representative of the values of our society but creating them as well.

During the roaring twenties Americans found themselves in a struggle between the old ways of their ancestors and the new ways of the future. The once steadfast beliefs that men and women should not touch while dancing, and that ladies should not drink or smoke were suddenly being challenged. From where was all this rebellion stemming? Partly it was due to the returning doughboys from the shores of Europe bringing home revolutionary ideas they had encountered while at war. Nonetheless, returning soldiers could not be held responsible for the social upheaval that America experienced. There had to be another cause, and there was, the media. Although the films of the era were silent they spoke volumes to the society for which they were created. Women in these movies wore their hemlines a few inches shorter than the decade before them and they wore cosmetics to accentuate their new bobbed haircuts. The movies, as well as the books of that era, demonstrated a new materialistic attitude that America had never before experienced. Films portrayed every character as having the money to buy a new car, drink, smoke and partake in the leisures of life, a philosophy that was soon adopted by the youth of the decade. The use of the media in the twenties was to serve as a catalyst for the revolutionary ideas that were circulating. The films and books of that era sped America along its path of change that eventually led to the greatest social unrest that the United States had ever known.

Unlike the twenties, the sixties and seventies utalized the media in a way that appealed to those searching for truth in a lost and confused world. Martin Luther King Jr. realized the impact of the media on society during his campaign for civil rights. King urged his followers to withstand any abuse that they might encounter because the media will take their peacefulness into the homes of their society. By doing so, King sucessfully began to change the traditional view of race. Americans began to sympathize with the protesters because of the undeserved turmoil they faced at the hands of the government. As a result, America relinquished the Jim Crow laws and saw many other groups press for their individual rights as well. Television cameras rolled as Cesar Chavez organized the migrant workers in California and as Bella Abzug and Gloria Steinham linked arms to protest the lack of women's rights.

While the media helped to shape some attitudes about racism and gender it also helped to uncover the truth behind government lies. During the Nixon

Comments:

This is an outstanding response, even though it is not quite finished. The writer's views on the issue are so cogent, well articulated, and well developed that the writer was not penalized for failing to provide a conclusion. What matters is the quality of thinking and writing displayed, not whether a paper is totally finished or has a certain number of words.

The writer's skill is apparent in the opening lines. The first words, “For our grandparents it occurred,” immediately spark the reader's interest.

“Wisdom is rightfully attributed not to people who know what to look for in life but to people who know what to overlook.”

I disagree with the opinion expressed above, in that I feel that the statement is omitting a very big part of what learning is all about. I firmly believe that wisdom is gained by careful observation of all that is around us in our lives. We gain a great deal by watching those around us, or by observing our surroundings, as well as watching the assembly of an object. All my life, I have learned a great deal by being very observant of people and their reactions to certain situations, or to procedures that are to be followed. Being observant has helped tremendously in travelling as well, since it has helped me recall certain landmarks to know if I am going in the correct direction. It is true that if we pay too much attention to insignificant detail, we clutter our minds with too much that is unnecesssary. Instead, we should have more time to devote our attention to that which is meaningful. In the field of science, we teach our students to be observant, and to look for specific reactions. If they don't learn to watch closely and record their data precisely, their results will be less than adequate, and their data will most likely not be very accurate or dependable. The statement above has merit, but it does not represent widsom in its entirety. It doesn't do justice to the great amount of learning that thas taken place through the ages through simple observation. Our forefathers survived by learning and knowing what to look for. That information was then passed on, so each successive generation didn't have to gather the same basic knowledge, but could build on what had already been learned. As a society, we need to lean on those who come before us, to learn valuable lessons from their experience, and to decipher that which we can improve on and that which is steadfast through the ages.

Comments:

This response presents a competent analysis of the issue, taking a position contrary to that expressed in the prompt, at least initially.

After stating the importance of “careful observation of all that is around us,” the response presents reasons and examples to support that position. The examples are clear and relevant, although the analysis is fairly brief. Also, the organization and focus of the response weakens a little, especially as the writer interrupts the group of examples with a statement that “if we pay too much attention to insignificant detail, we will clutter our minds with too much that is unnecessary.” This statement modifies -- and weakens -- the initial position, which the writer believed “firmly.”

The writer抯 ideas are conveyed with reasonable clarity, but -- as is evident in the closing sentence -- this response lacks the skillful use of sentence structure and vocabulary that communicate meaning in responses that typically earn higher scores.

(E) wrote exclusively about female characters and the experiences of women

(A) completely different from novels written before 1959

(B) highly influenced by novels written in the early twentieth century

(C) similar to the protest novels that preceded it

(D) important in the late 1950’s but dated today

(E) an important influence on novels written in the 1970’s

1)最高级词汇:best , the most important, the least useful, uttermost, foremost, uppermost, always ,never, often, usually, primarily, primary, exact(ly),complete(ly) . entire(ly) absolute(ly) extremely, unmitigated . unrestrained . unchecked. first等

2)唯一性词汇:only, alone, exclusively, sole(ly), unique(ly)

3)比较级词汇:more useful than, less beneficial than, better , worse than ,as ..as, the same with, similar to 等等。

(D) important in the late 1950’s but dated today

(E) an important influence on novels written in the 1970’s

3 、“It is more important to allocate money for immediate, existing social problems than to

spend it on long-term research that might help future generations.”

1、诚然,我们应当把钱用在当前的社会问题上,如:发展经济,解决失业、犯罪 poverty, disease, war等,因为这些社会问题可能严重危害人们的生命、财产安全;

vaccinate the children in poor African coutri es where hygiene conditions are unqualified

long-term research devotes to resolving or prev enting social problems that might occur to our descendants; preserve the environment from deteri oration is easier than resolving those already emerged enironmental problems which jeopardize the ecosystem

3T “It is more important to allocate money for immedi ate, existing social problems than to spend it on long-term research that might help future generations.”

When we enjoy the fruits of industrialization and democracy, we are, on the other side, confronted with social problems brought by as another consequence of this process.

Firstly, immediate, existing social problems that ba ffled us deeply need to be resolved as quickly as possible so to restore a sound society and improve its healthy development.

However, many present social problems cannot be resolved immediately as we hoped.

Furthermore, neglecting long-term researches that may help future generations, overemphasizing to focus on the present problems, may result in incomp lete resolution to these social problems, which can merely be an expedience rather than a resolution.

9“Academic disciplines have become so specia lized in recent years that scholars' ideas reach only a narrow audience. Until scholars can reach a wider audience, their ideas will have little use.”

define wider audience as people of other disciplines within the same field or relevant field; physics and mathematics; chemistry and biology; achievenments in one discipline can shed light on other discipline

define wider audien ce as people outside academic field; the re search on computer science; people still can benefit from the application of those ideas even though they do not un der stand the underlying principles

9T “Academic disciplines have become so specialized in recent years that scholars' ideas reach only a narrow audience. Until scholars can reach a wider audience, their ideas will have little use.”

Watson and Click DNA

Game theory

As a matter of fact, the more specialized the ideas, the less accessible to them. However, specialization does not have any impact on the value of scholars’ ideas. Actually, it is not necessary for the public to under stand all abstruse ideas scholars hold. For example, most people do not know how the CPU is running in the personal computer, but this does not hamper them to using computers.

8 、“It is often necessary, even desirable, for political leaders to withhold information from the public.”

.分同意

1、承认为了获得政治领导权 win the political game需要withhold informaion to gain political power; disclose every personal flaw, shortcoming, foibles opponents will take advantage; no need to be complete honest

2、关系到 classic information of the government要保留 national defence, attack on drug dealers

3、但在关系到人民利益的时候隐瞒信息会对人们造成危害,使政府失去信任 the panic caused by SARS derived from China in 2003 was mostly initia ted by the closure of information by the government of Beijing. Lots of citizens are not available to take measures to protect from this deadly disease.

.It is always impossible for the political leaders to reveal everything to the public, especially some the information which can affect the national security. Different nations are competing and even antagonistic. Revealing some information could has no help for the solution but poses negative impact on the stability of a country. Unidentified illness

Withholding information should not be the excuse for political leaders to abuse their power.

Withholding information at their will could provide the chance of corruption,

It is often necessary, even desirable, for political leaders to withhold information from the public.”

少数和多数的关系之 true lies, the truth is out there.

Before the political leader is elected, honesty is not a useful virtue for candidates

After being elected, it is advantaged to conceal some information for the leader either.

四、on the other hand, people in any democracy will throw down the gauntlet to the goverment’s blackout, or put it bluntly, so-called fooling the public, in the long run.

2、empirical evidence of economy,持续通胀 counterproductive

3、长期欺骗只有 downfall, abuse, subversi on of administration

8T 个体和整体 政治类 “It is often necessary, even desirable, for political leaders to withhold information from the public.” 8 .

Admittedly, sometimes it is necessary for political leaders to keep the public from know something, such as country’s top secret, which is indispensable and helpful for a country in defending aggression and keeping safety.

③ 公开信息还有一个优势:防止权力的腐败 反面说:引起腐败,and therefore bring detriment to society.

Firstly, political leaders, in a democracy regime, will harm the proper right of people as they withhold information from the public.

Secondly, withholding information from the public will result in corruption in the government, and therefore bring detriment to society.
