I would like to describe about Fat Choy which is a plant grown in the deserts in the northern part of China. You may link up Fat Choy with the famous Chinese Greetings “Kung Hei Fat Choy” when you heard about it at the first time. Yes, they are pronounce in the same way in Chinese. It is black in color and looks like vermicelli when it is soaked with water.
Fat Choy is used in some Chinese Recipes and the dishes are quite popular during Chinese New Year. People like to have some dishes which relates to rich and wealth at the beginning of a year. Thanks to its name pronouncing similar to Kung Hei Fat Choi, Fat Choi is always in great demand. Interesting enough, nutritionists examine Fat Choy and confirm that it has no nutrition value at all, although they are loved by the Chinese people.
I personally like the plant. But I don't like to have it in my dishes. Fat Choy is important to northern part of China, not because of its name relating to wealth, but its unique function in the wild to anchor the sand in desert. Over harvesting of Fay Choy has already brought a disaster consequence of worsening the desertification of northern part of China.
To make things worst, Fat Choy is a plant in the wild and planting it artificially is difficult. It could only be grown in the dessert with some other specific environmental factors. Fat Choy is now in extinction. I personally like this plant very much because of its strong characteristic, uniqueness and usefulness. And I would like to take any chance to advocate protection of Fay Choy within and outside China. It is already good to greet your friend with “Kung Hei Fat Choy” during Chinese New Year and you can leave Fay Choy in the dessert.

You should say
What it is

Speaking of plants, I know one which is important in my country and that is called mints. I guess it’s not a popular choice maybe when talking about plants. Mint is what people know as (俗知的) a fragrant herb. I came to know this plant as my mother bought a pot of mint from the market and kept it on the balcony inside our kitchen. I liked it at first glance(第一眼) as it is of my favourite colours, bright green. And it contains this delicious light and cool scent, which many people absolutely love. The cooling taste of mint is just the thing after a heavy meal (大餐). However, I was hurt a bit the first time I tried to grab it as it has these leaves that are like saw. Then I became careful afterwards. The reason my mum put it there is because it decorates the room also it can be used for cooking. After a while, we found out that mints are really easy to grow and take care of because they need little water. They grow better in warm weather. Ours has lived for many months so far. And with the bright color, it’s good for eyes as well. What’s more, it can be very useful as I said. Mint is mostly used as flavorings for foods, including candy and gum and for liqueur. Once we made a mint flavoured cake, which was well balanced between (平衡很好) freshness and sweetness. The essential oils of mints are used as scents in perfume. Some species of mint are also used in herbal medicine.

Describe an important tree or plant in your country.
Paddy plant or rice plant is a very common plant which is grown in our country. The farmers of our country cultivate it and it is grown in most of the places in our country. If you go to a countryside in paddy season, you will find this plant is dancing with the wind. This plant grows well in fertile land and needs a good supply of water and sunlight. Rice is our chip food and we get rice from this paddy plant.
The paddy plant is a medium side plant which is thin and the leaves and body of this plant are green. Usually, the rice seed is green in early states and becomes yellow when it is ripe. Our economy heavily depends on our rice production. Our environment, soil, water and fields are in favour of producing a large quantity of rice each year.
Since I live in a city now, I don't see these plants here but in my childhood whenever I went to visit our village, I found this plant in every field. Mile after mile farmers cultivate paddy plants and wish to get a good quantity of rice. These paddy plants are beautiful and create a harmony with the wind if you hear closely. The dancing of this plant with the wind is something that would simply create a magical hallucination.
I also like it because this plant provides us rice which is our staple food. The taste and food value are quite good and it is our main crop. Every part of this plant has its usefulness. Our economy has a good dependency on the production of rice which we get from this plant. In our country, this is probably the most important plant we grow.

Paddy is a common type of crop in our country that I am familiar with. Rice is the staple food in our country and our food demand is mainly supported by this crop. Paddy is grown in almost all part of our country. But the north part of the country is particularly the best place to produce the best quality of rice. The paddy plant is grown in fertile land where plenty of water supplies is available. But it can't grow in water.
The people of our country eat rice as our main food and because of this plant we get our food supply. This is the most important crop in our country and probably the most important one as well. If we can't grow plenty of paddy plant we won't have enough rice and as a consequence, we won't have enough food supply for our people. Every nation has its own main crop and their economy is much influenced by it and for our country paddy has the similar influences on our economy.
I like this paddy plant as it looks beautiful in the green field. The golden paddy and the green plants look amazing when it dances with the rhythm of the wind. I also like it because it the main food for us. We are heavily depended on this plant for our daily foods and economic growth.
The importance of this plant and the crop it gives is really huge. If we did not have this plant in our country, we would have a real problem fulfilling our daily food needs. The crops we get from the plant are our main crop and supply us our daily needs of foods. For all these reasons I like this plant and the crop it provides.

What the plant is

范文:
Ok then, well after a bit of thought, I’ve decided to talk to you about bamboo. However, I honestly don’t know if I’m gonna be able to talk for two minutes about it, but I’ll give it a try!
So first of all, as for how I know about bamboo, well I can’t really remember exactly how I first got to know about it, you know, it could have been in a biology class at school, or when I was out somewhere with my parents, but my guess would be that I probably first knew about it at primary school, because that was about the time when we first started learning about things like that.
Anyway, moving on to why bamboo is important, well I’d say it’s pretty important for a number of reasons, the main one of which would be that it can be used to make so many different things, you know, such as chopsticks, chopping boards, flooring, what else, um……oh yeah, and musical instruments, like the bamboo flute for example.
And another thing to mention is that bamboo is also used a lot for carrying stuff. For example, what I’ve seen people do is rest it on their shoulders, and then hang things on each end, because as well as being strong, it’s also very flexible, so it won’t break, even with very heavy loads.
So it’s extremely useful, and what’s good about it is that it grows incredibly fast, you know, not like most other trees, and so although a lot of it’s cut down to make stuff, there will still always be an abundant supply of it here.
But anyway, finally then, as for how much I like bamboo, well I’d say it’s actually probably one of my favourite plants! Because I mean, it kind of just gives me a nice, pleasant feeling whenever I see it. And it’s also a plant which is often associated with China, because we grow so much of it here, so it’s something that kind of reminds me of my own culture, if you know what I mean.
So yeah I guess that’s pretty much it then. Thanks for listening.

1.Do you like shopping for shoes?
It's ok I suppose, but it's not something I especially enjoy doing. You know, for me it's just a matter of finding the right shoes and buying them, and the faster I can get it done, the better!
2. How often do you buy shoes?
Let me have a little think…um, I guess probably something like once every few months, cos I mean, the shoes I buy tend to last quite a long time, sometimes even a year or so, before I need to get another pair. So yeah, on average I'd say I buy a couple of pairs a year. Something like that!
3. What kinds of shoes do you usually buy?
Well, thinking about it, the shoes I normally buy are just plain, simple walking shoes, cos that's all I really need. Oh and I also occasionally buy trainers for running, but that's pretty much it!
Pretty much = more or less.
4. Do you prefer comfortable shoes or good-looking shoes?
Ah, that's an easy one! I much prefer comfortable shoes, cos for me, comfort is definitely the number one priority. But that's not to say I don't care at all about how they look. I mean, I don't wanna go around wearing shoes that look hideous! You know, that would be pretty embarrassing. But as long as they're ok looking, then that's good enough for me.
5. What kind of shoes do you usually wear?
A) I mostly wear flat shoes rather than high heeled shoes because I find them more comfortable. I also go for shoes that aren’t lace-ups so that I can slip them on and off whenever I need to.
6. Do you think the type of shoes someone wears reflects their character?
A) Yes, I do. People say that first impressions are important and I think that goes for shoes too. If you see a person wearing a worn out pair of shoes, it gives you the impression that they that are sloppy. On the other hand, if you see someone wearing brand name shoes that cost a fortune, you know that the person has plenty of money to splash around and doesn’t care about costs. So, shoes can tell you a lot about someone’s character.
More than 20 pairs, that's for sure. The sad part is that I think I only wore about 3 or 4 more than half a dozen times. The rest have been worn once or worn not at all.
2. Where do you shop for shoes?
In the shoe shops. I do not and would never consider buying shoes online. I have a high arch and narrow foot, it is necessary for me to try shoes on in the shops.
3. What kinds of shoes do you like?
Sensible shoes. I don't go for high heels or flats as both hurt my feet. I will usually go for Crocs because they are quick and easy to put on. The one exception is with my Timberland hiking boots, which are good for wet weather.
4. Do you like shopping shoes or clothes?
I’ll go for the latter. I'm a guy and personally believe both for guys and girls that you should be spending more money on clothes than shoes. People don't even look at your shoes that much, people pay more attention to what you wear for clothing considering it takes up about 19/20 of your body.
5. Do you prefer comfortable shoes or pretty shoes?
It depends on how much walking and standing you do throughout the day. If you don't do much of either you could probably go with the prettier shoes. If you are up and down from your desk walking or standing a lot you will want to go with the other shoes as your feet will thank you at the end of the day.
她的一句经典台词是:“I've spent $40,000 on shoes and I have no place to live? I will literally be the old woman who lived in her shoes!”
flats平底鞋 trainers 运动鞋 oxford shoes牛津鞋;
stilettos(细高跟鞋)
所以如果被问道 “Do you like shoes?”
Absolutely! My friends call me “shoes addict” since the number of my shoes surprises them. I have flats, trainers, boots, flip-flops, slippers, sandals, wedges and a few high heels for special occasions.
Ballet flats are my first choice , cause they are super comfy.
还可以加上鞋子的材质和颜色,让考官觉得你 “has a wide enough vocabulary to discuss topics at length”
I bought a pair of oxford shoes recently, they were an impulse buy. The brown leather makes it classic.
I have a quite a few pairs of casual shoes, like sneakers and loafers are must-have. And formal leather shoes is indispensable for special occasions like weddings and interviews. What’s more, I am really crazy about outdoor activities, and hiking boots allows me to go through any adventures.
What kind of shoes do you like?
Do you prefer comfortable shoes or fashionable shoes?
Do you often buy shoes?
How often do you buy shoes?
Do you like buying shoes online?
Why do some people like buying a lot of shoes?
1.leather shoe
Lace-up shoes 系鞋带的鞋,loafers 或者是 slip-on shoes 中文俗称“一脚蹬”,athletic shoes 泛指运动鞋,soft-soled shoes软底鞋。
1.What kind of shoes do you like?
I like sneakers. In my culture, youngsters in my age all like sneakers very much. They are quite comfortable, and wearing them we can do some sports and walk for a long distance.
Frankly speaking, there is no certain type of shoes that I like most. While shopping for shoes, I like to choose some lace-up shoes, because the tightness of the shoes with shoelaces is adjustable. Besides, the shoe sole must be soft enough, since I do not want to hurt my feet while having a walk for a long distance.
2.Do you prefer comfortable shoes or fashionable shoes?
I prefer comfortable ones, if I have to choose. I am a college student now, so what I concern most about my shoes is whether or not they may pinch my feet or rub my skin. That is why I like to choose some comfortable shoes.
To be frank, people as smart as me do not need to choose one of these two types, since I can easily buy some shoes that are both comfortable and fashionable. An instance in point is that I always buy some fashion sneakers, which will never hurt my feet and can readily show my taste of fashion to my friends.
3.Do you often buy shoes? How often do you buy shoes?
I buy shoes not really often, like three or four times a year. In fact, I only go shopping for shoes when my old shoes are broken or extremely out of fashion. I am a rather frugal person.
Once I buy some new clothes, I need or I can say I have to buy a pair of new shoes for them. Actually, a pair of shoes is not only what you wear on your feet but it is an essential part for your overall image. A mismatch between the wrong pair of shoes you choose and the dress you wear can be seen as a disaster.
4.Do you like buying shoes online?
Yes, in my mind, buying shoes online is both time- and money- saving. Usually, I like to buy shoes on Taobao, which is the biggest online shopping platform in my country and where I can always find the shoes that I like.
Never. What I like to say is shoes are something different from what I often buy online. The reason is that I have to try them on before I pay for them. I need to feel in person whether they are comfortable and whether they rub my skin or pinch my toes. That is why I often go to some physical stores to buy shoes.
5.Why do some people like buying a lot of shoes?
From my point of view, they buy many pairs of shoes because they need to wear them on different occasions. For example, if they go hiking, they need a pair of hiking boots. And if they like to play basketball, of course they need a pair of sneakers.
First, no matter what reasons they have, they must be rich. What the rich do oftentimes is unaccountable. They may think some limited edition shoes are collectable. That is why in my country some youngsters buy lots of fashion sneakers. Some other people buy many pairs of shoes simply because they want to match their clothes. They have too much clothes, and surely they do not mind buying a lot of shoes.

So first of all, as for how I know about bamboo, well I can't really remember exactly how I first got to know about it, you know, it could have been in a biology class at school, or when I was out somewhere with my parents, but my guess would be that I probably first knew about it at primary school, because that was about the time when we first started learning about things like that.
Anyway, moving on to why bamboo is important, well I'd say it's pretty important for a number of reasons, the main one of which would be that it can be used to make so many different things, you know, such as chopsticks, chopping boards, flooring, what else.um......oh yeah, and musical instruments, like the bamboo flute for example.
And another thing to mention is that bamboo is also used a lot for carrying stuff. For example, what I've seen people do is rest it on their shoulders, and then hang things on each end, because as well as being strong, it's also very flexible, so it won't break, even with very heavy loads.

Paddy fields are certainly the most important plant in China. Paddy fields are an important part of agriculture in China. The southern Chinese mainly live on rice and northerners mainly live on wheat. The paddy fields look like carpets of fresh green. It is not difficult to grow, especially in warmer climates. It does take a while before the rice seeds actually begin producing. It needs much more moisture than most other crops, full sunlight, warm temperatures and fertile soil. It is ready to harvest when the grain heads and stalks just start to turn yellow. As when harvesting wheat, one can test the rice grains by pinching them between your fingers. They grow well in flooded beds or containers but will do just fine in well-watered soil. It requires at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day.
A Chinese scientist Yuan Longping invented the hybrid rice which saved thousands of millions Chinese from starvation. It could produce 20% more rice each unit that common rice. And this progress has made china the pioneer in rice production.

范文
I would like to describe the plant called Fat Choy, which is a plant grown in the desert in the northern part of China. The first time I met with this plant was on the TV, a program introducing plants in desert. You may link up Fat Choy with the famous Chinese Greetings “Kung Hei Fat Choy” when you hear about it at the first time. Yes, they are pronounced in the same way in Chinese. It is black in color and looks like vermicelli when it is soaked with water. Fat Choy is used in some Chinese dishes that are quite popular during Chinese New Year. People like to have some dishes that have symbolic meaning as richness and wealth at the beginning of a year. Thanks to its name pronouncing similar to Kung Hei Fat Choi, Fat Choi is always in great demand. Interesting enough, nutritionists examine Fat Choy and confirm that it has no nutrition value at all, although they are loved by Chinese people.
I personally like the plant. But I don't like to have it in my dishes. Fat Choy is important to people in the northern part of China, not because of its name relating to wealth, but its unique function in the wild to anchor the sand in desert. Over-harvesting has already brought a disastrous consequence of worsening the desertification in the northern part of China. What makes things worse is that Fat Choy is a wild plant and planting it artificially is difficult. It only grows in the desert with some other specific environmental factors. Fat Choy is now in danger of extinction. I personally like this plant very much because of its strong characteristic, uniqueness and usefulness. And I would like to take any chance to advocate the protection of Fay Choy within and outside of China. It is already good to greet your friend with “Kung Hei Fat Choy” during Chinese New Year and you can leave Fay Choy in the desert.
My favourite food is fried rice with vegetable and chicken curry with salad. This is in fact the most popular menu in our country. The rice is first boiled in water and then the boiled rice is fried with some chicken and vegetables and oil. The chicken curry is prepared separately using some spices and chicken and finally the salad is prepared using different vegetables and fruits and then those are cup into pieces and mixed together with mustard. Then these three items are served together.
I eat this menu approximately 3-4 times in a week. This menu is prepared at home mostly and sometimes I eat it in a restaurant. There are some variations in the way this food is prepared and the ingredients using which this food is made. Different restaurants have their own specialty in preparing and serving this menu.
This is my favourite food for many reasons: firstly it is very delicious and healthy. This menu meets the demand for different food values our body needs. It is available in most of the part in our country. Thirdly, I like it as it offers the variations of tastes. Moreover, it is not that much expensive to prepare and does not require o much effort to prepare. For all these reasons it is my favourite food.

1. speak at length without noticeable effort /
考官想帮我, “Would you like to talk more about this?” 我笑着回答: “No, thank you. That’s all.”
2. uses some less common and idiomatic vocabulary /
Do you think we should levy tax on foods that contain a lot of sugar? 我说:No, I don’t agree with this. If the government imposed tax on these foods, people would ...
3. use a range of complex structures /
When was the last time you had tea or coffee?
C11T2W2
Some people claim that not enough of the waste from homes is recycled. They say that the only way to increase recycling is for governments to make it a legal requirement.
To what extent do you think laws are needed to make people recycle more of their waste?
考官点评 “ ... rather than explicitly looking at the extent to which laws are required” 就是说考生没有去详细讨论是否需要法律。

And it’s also a plant which is often associated with China, because we grow so much of it here, so it’s something that kind of reminds me of my own culture, if you know what I mean.
So yeah I guess that’s pretty much it then. Thanks for listening.

I can tell you about Periwinkle, commonly known as Sada Bahar in my country. It’s one of the most popular plants here. It is an evergreen subshrub or herbaceous plant growing to 1 m tall. The leaves are oval to oblong, 2–9 cm long and 1–3 cm broad, glossy green, hairless, with a pale midrib and a short petiole; they are arranged in opposite pairs. The flowers are white to dark pink with a darker red centre. The fruit is a pair of follicles. In the wild, it is an endangered plant; the main cause of decline is habitat destruction by slash and burn agriculture. It is also however widely cultivated and is naturalised in subtropical and tropical areas of the world.
My first memory of this pink flower (which I later found out was called the periwinkle) was at my Grandmas place. Every morning she would water the sandy flower beds from which the periwinkles sprang up. I loved watching them nodding at the sun and dancing in the wind. Periwinkles grow perpetually all year through and are also available in shades of white and purple.
Periwinkle is very easy to grow. Just pluck a branch from another plant and stick it in well drained soil. Soon roots will grow and the pink flowers will multiply. I picked a four inch branch one year ago from someone's garden and today I have a flowerbed overflowing with periwinkle flowers.
I think this is one of the most popular ornamental plants we have, and it is used in medicine as well. Today, the leaves and roots of the periwinkle are used in the pharmaceutical industry and in ayurvedic medicines to treat different diseases like diabetes, hypertension and cancer.

Describe an important tree or plant in your country.
An important plant in your country that you like
what it is
how you knew about it
why it is important
explain why you like it
Sample Answer (Band 6)
The one I’ve chosen to talk about is bamboo, which is diffusely planted inthe southern part of China and also commonly seen in other subtropical areas(亚热带).
The first time I knew about this plant, as far as I can remember, was when I was 6 years old. My parents took me to a panda natural reserve (自然保护区) in Sichuan where I saw a picturesque (风景如画的) bamboo forest. You know, pandas mostly feed on bamboo, and that’s how I knew about this plant.
As for why it’s an important plant, well, I once read it somewhere that it could be used to make medicine to cure diseases like coughing, fever and even insomnia, which makes it very valuable. Also, it has become a new material to make a wide range of things, including fabrics and paper, which is more environmentally friendly(环保的) and can remove unpleasant smells (除臭).
But the main reason why I like bamboo is that in traditional Chinese culture, bamboo is a symbol of (是什么的象征) some great virtues like persistence and perseverance(坚持不懈), integrity and honesty (正直诚实), which I consider as the greatest qualities of a person.
Sample Answer (Band 7)
The one I’ve chosen to talk about is called mimosa (含羞草), also known as sleepy plant, which is diffusely plantedin (广泛种植于) the southern part of China and also commonly seen inother tropical areas.
The first time I knew about this plant, as far as I can remember, was when I was 6 years old. You know, my grandmother is an expert at (是某方面的专家) gardening, and she had all kinds of potted plants(盆栽) on her balcony. One day, I accidentally touched the leaflets of a potted mimosa. Then what happened next shocked me: the leaflets closed! I had never seen anything like it before and I was totally blown away Then my grandma explained to me that whenever stimulated in some ways, such as touching, warming, blowing or shaking, the foliage would fold inwards as a response. Because of this, it could serve as a tool to predict weather(预测天气). And that’s one of the reasons why I like this plant.
As for why it’s an important plant, well, I once read it somewhere that some of the chemicals in mimosa could be used to make medicine to cure diseases like coughing, fever and could even prevent insomnia, which makes it very valuable.

And another thing to mention is that bamboo is also used a lot for carrying stuff. For example, what I've seen people do is rest it on their shoulders, and then hang things on each end, because as well as being strong, it's also very flexible, so it won't break, even with very heavy loads.
第三部分中,考官与考生会就考官提出的问题进行讨论,当考官说“This is the end of the test。”
一转眼,听到对面的考官对着他/她的录音设备说“This is the end of the test。”
